Passenger traffic at Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA), Jordan’s busiest aviation hub, saw a strong recovery in January, with a 13% year-on-year increase, according to the Jordan Times.
Data from the Airport International Group (AIG) revealed that 784,992 travelers passed through QAIA last month, marking a significant improvement compared to the same period in 2024.
Aircraft movements also saw an uptick, rising 5% to 6,061 flights. However, air cargo traffic declined by 23%, handling 4,940 tonnes of freight.
“The steady rebound in passenger numbers reflects the impact of recent regional shifts and the momentum leading up to the year-end holiday season,” said AIG CEO Nicolas Deviller.
Annual Trends at QAIA
Despite the positive monthly performance, annual passenger figures indicated a 4% decline, with 8.8 million travelers recorded over the past 12 months.
Aircraft movements in 2024 totaled 73,370, a 6% drop compared to the previous year, while cargo operations improved, rising 12% to 75,450 tonnes.
AIG’s Extended Concession Agreement
In a move to bolster long-term operations, Jordan’s government extended AIG’s build-operate-transfer (BOT) concession agreement for seven additional years, allowing the company to manage QAIA until 2039.
